The Center is known for its innovative programming and is a leader in client-centered, activity-based, wellness-directed, fun-filled activities. Participants enjoy more than 250 entertainment presentations. daytrips number nearly 200 a year. An electronic roam-alert system provides an extra level of security for participants. Eight rooms for specialized activities make up the Center including a spacious lobby, computer lab, art room, nurse’s clinic, shower facility and a space for special events, entertainment and dancing.
Activities are geared to the participant’s ability level, encouraging group participation, socialization, maximum mobility and good times. Our professionally-trained staff includes college-degreed activity coordinators, nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and experienced volunteers. We enjoy one of the highest staff retention levels in the business. A one-to-seven staff ratio ensures extraordinary care and security for participants.
Participant caregivers and family members may communicate with us directly by e-mail via a secured password from our Web site, should they choose. Health specialists and daytrip coordinators are available for this type of electronic communication.
We are pleased to be working closely with the health professionals at Garden Terrace in providing free screening to our participants who may be helped by a wide range of rehabilitation therapies from Occupational to speech to physical therapy. Professionals at Garden Terrace are specially trained to offer outpatient services to people with mild cognitive impairment and early-onset dementia, swallowing difficulty, peripheral neuropathy, orthopedic injury or neurological impairment. A permission slip is required.
We are now working even more closely with the physicians who care for our participants. Every six months we send a Participant Progress Update to participant physicians. The report indicates our understanding of medications, health and behavioral issues that relate to the participant’s care. This helps both the doctor and the Center staff address the changing health care needs of our participants and encourages close communications between health professionals and families.
The Johnson Center now offers the latest in computer-aided technologies for elders and those with disabilities. It’s Never 2 Late is an adaptive computer lab connecting seniors and caregivers with technology. A touch screen and simple ease-of-use e-mail program are available. Knowledge of computer usage is not required. Elders and those with impairments can enjoy history, travel, television and radio programs. Participants can stay in touch with family members all over the world. Computer-related activities provide excellent brain stimulation. Virtual visits to museums around the world and nostalgic visual tours of historic events are all available. You’ll want to learn about the adaptive use of the computer to enhance the life of elders with cognitive impairments.
