Frequently Asked Questions

What is an adult day center?

An adult day center is a place for caregivers to bring adults during the day who may have physical or mental impairments. Adult day services include supervised activities, socialization, cultural programs and daytrips. Centers provide respite for caregivers who may need to go to work, go to appointments or take a break from caregiving.

Is your loved one isolated with few social interactions and little activity during the day? Do you need a break from caregiving? Are you contemplating a nursing home placement or home health aide? Would your loved one benefit from new friendships and fun activities? It may be time for adult day services.

What are The Johnson Adult Day Center entry requirements?

There are few requirements, but we do request that one or more family members schedule a tour of our Center before enrolling. A nurse will then help you complete a brief application identifying any special dietary needs, health conditions or specific behaviors. Participants at The Johnson Center are primarily mature adults in their 70s and 80s.

Is there a waiting list?

Not at this time, however, some days of the week at the Center are better attended than others. You may have to wait before your requested day(s) of the week is available.

What is the cost of your program and is financial assistance available?

Our fees are $66 per day, $73.50 if daytrips or other special offerings are contracted. Your bill is compiled at the end of the month and sent to The Colorado Health Foundation, our sponsoring organization, for invoicing. You can expect a bill by the middle of each month. Checks are paid and sent to The Colorado Health Foundation. Financial assistance is available through a need-based grant assistance program, as well as a sliding scale billing plan. Grant opportunities are also available through The Alzheimer’s Association, Colorado Chapter.

Do you accept Medicaid for billing purposes?

We accept Medicaid. Please check with your case worker for requirements.

Yes. We have a nurse on duty daily to administer medications, including insulin, to monitor blood pressure and track the specific health needs of our participants.

What should I do if my loved one refuses to come?

It’s sometimes helpful to come to the Center just for a visit or for lunch and entertainment as a first step (please call us in advance). Others find it helpful to schedule a daytrip or an art class only. These programs often are a comfortable way to begin before enrolling in the typical day program.

The Johnson Adult Day CenterI’m not sure I can arrange transportation to your Center. Can you help?

Yes. The Johnson Center assists families in finding transportation through the American Red Cross and other mobility services.

What happens in the case of a medical emergency?

Our first step is to contact a family member, describe the issue of concern and determine a course of action. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, we call 911 so participants can immediately be transferred to a local emergency department.

Can I come for a tour or a visit?

We invite you to come for a visit at any time. Please call us in advance so we can expect you. Caregivers, case managers and friends often join us for lunch or afternoon entertainment. You are always welcome to attend our special events.
