The Johnson Center is pleased to offer one of the most extensive daytripping programs for older adults with limitations anywhere in the greater Denver area. Nearly 200 trips a year depart from The Johnson Center, providing unique opportunities for seniors of varying abilities, and a welcome respite for their caregivers. Excursions are tailored for full (5 hr.) or half-day (2.5 hrs.) trips for those with cognitive impairments and memory loss. An initial interview is necessary to match daytrippers with appropriate outings and activity levels.
Complete details, requirements, costs and descriptions, as well as contact information, are available by viewing or downloading the Daytripping brochure.
Daytrip Manager, Maureen Wells, has a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing and community mental health and is uniquely qualified to lead the trips and direct an experienced, skilled daytripping team. She combined her years of daytripping experience into a book called “Ageless Outings-a guide to 200+ day trips along the Front Range.”

Our goal is to offer safe, fun outings for participants who may have limitations but are still basically independent. Clients are assigned outings on the days that best match their abilities. Here is an example
Wednesdays – Our easiest trips. Good for those who can manage a short flight of stairs and walk at a reasonable pace for up to 20 minutes without resting.
Tuesdays – Moderate trips. Appropriate for those who can climb one or more flights of stairs and walk up to 40 minutes at a reasonable pace without resting.
Thursdays – More difficult trips. Appropriate for those who can climb two or more flights of stairs of any steepness and walk up to 60 minutes at a reasonable pace without resting.
High Impact Days – For those with early onset Alzheimer’s who can take hikes of up to 90 minutes, play active games and be out for up to seven hours.
Lunch Groups – For those who have some physical limitations (may use a walker or have minimal stamina) but who are basically independent in a restroom.
Note: Daytrips fill quickly. There is often a waiting or substitute list. Attendees who have committed to a regular schedule of daytrips are guaranteed a spot on their particular day.
