About the Johnson Adult Day
Program
Our Mission: To provide
life enriching activities and care for adults with memory loss as
well as support and respite for caregivers.
The Johnson Adult Day Program (JADP) is a
specialized Center located in Englewood that provides
adult day activities to those with memory or physical
impairments. JADP wants to improve the lives of Coloradans
through adult day
activities, health programs, caregiver support and community
leadership.
Respite, education, and case management services are provided
for caregivers. The facility is one of the only free-standing
day centers in Denver specifically designed for adults with memory
loss, and includes secured outdoor gardens and paths, multi-level
activities to accommodate the changing needs of participants, and
full-time medical oversite by registered nurses. JADP also
offers one of the most extensive Daytripping Programs in the
greater Denver area.
JADP is non-profit 501c3 and supported by Total
Longterm Care, fundraising events, donations, and volunteer
services.
JADP HISTORY
In the 1980s, Swedish Hospital and the foundation supporting its
community programs founded the first day-time program for people
living with Alzheimer's disease in the Denver area.
In 1995, a generous bequest was received from the estate of L.
Ruth Johnson to build a new facility for the Adult Day Program, now
named after Mrs. Johnson's parents, Charles and Frances
Johnson. The new facility was completed in 1996 to house the
growing program, where we still stand today.
Mrs. Johnson was introduced to the Adult Day Program when her
husband developed Alzheimer's Disease. His disease had
progressed significantly, preventing him from participating in the
program. Nevertheless, Mrs. Johnson was so impressed with the
warmth, caring, and expertise of the Adult Day Program that she
took an ongoing interest in the program.
Mrs. Johnson passed away in March 1995, but she will be
remembered for her generosity, which will benefit the senior
community of Colorado for years to come.
For more than 10 years, The Johnson Adult Day Program,
specifically designed for those with dementia, has been setting the
standard for activity-based, client-centered care and support for
adults with a range of health challenges, including Alzheimer's and
Parkinson's disease, or the after-effects of stroke or traumatic
brain injury.
In 2008, the Johnson Center joined forces with Total
Longterm Care, another adult day company that provides
healthcare and support to help seniors stay as healthy as
possible while remaining in their own homes and
communities.
JADP enjoys more than 15,000 participant visits annually
and tallies an average of 200 daytrips. This would not be
possible without the help of many organizations in the community
including The Colorado Health Foundation and the Alzheimer's Association,
Colorado Chapter, as well as volunteers from the Swedish
Medical center and physician residents of The Colorado Health
Foundation.
JADP is "Celebration Central" and they celebrate the
birthdays of every participant and staff member along with the
celebration of every holiday they can think
of! There are many fun and exciting events
in the facility for the participants, families, and
caregivers such as the annual Senior Prom and Summer
Luau. They have a theme every month to focus interest to
help engage their participants. All of the activities throughout the day are geared
toward physical, cognitive, and social stimulation for their
participants.
Activities are geared to the participant's ability level,
encouraging group participation, socialization, maximum mobility,
and good times. JADP enjoys one of the highest staff retention levels in the business and
ensures extraordinary care and security for all JADP
participants. Our staff consists of college-degreed activity
coordinators, RNs (registered nurses), CNAs (Certified Nursing
Assistants), certified geriatric specialists, physician interns,
and experienced volunteers. A one to seven staff to
participant ratio ensures extroardinaty care and security for the
participants.
